THE RECKONERS/VAPORS OF MORPHINE

The Boston-based rock band formerly known as “Band of Killers” have changed the band’s name to “Reckoners” after a period of reflection and feedback from their growing fan base. The original name, while memorable, doesn’t really represent the band’s musical identity, style or personality. Seeking a name that better represented their dynamic sound and the introspective, soulful nature of their lyrics, the band settled on “Reckoners” as both a nod to the band’s experience and musical evolution.

“We came together as a “Band of Killers” more as a collective of some of the best rock musicians in Boston, backing up different singers / styles of music for studio work, ad hoc performances, etc.” says guitarist and founding member Johnny Trama “what we found was that we were enjoying working together and seeing where this more permanent line up would take us. Working with Tim Gearan, one of our favorite singer/ songwriters was an opportunity we were excited to explore and has produced music we’re really proud of. “Reckoners” fits more naturally with who we are as musicians individually, and together as a band.”

Vapors of Morphine

Vapors was formed over a decade ago by Dana Colley, singer and multi-instrumentalist Jeremy Lyons and Morphine’s original drummer Jerome Deupree. Drummer Tom Arey (J. Geils Band, Peter Wolfe’s Midnight Ramblers, Ghosts of Jupiter) replaced Deupree in 2019. Their lates album represents both a new era and a return to form for Vapors of Morphine.
Fear & Fantasy, in its often lush arrangement, recalls Morphine’s final album, The Night, where Deupree teamed up with Billy Conway, the drummer who had replaced him; this time Arey plays on one side, Deupree on the other. It only seems fitting when both bands have been blessed with a revolving cast of top-notch percussionists.
