JAKE HUNSINGER & THE ROCKBOTTOM BAND/DUSTY & THE BRAKES/JAKE WASSON MALPRACTICE/

  • Thursday Dec. 07, 2023 @ 8pm doors 9pm show
  •  $10.00
Join us at the Parlour on December 7th for a night of Original Country, Folk, Blues, and Rock featuring the following:
Dusty & The Brakes (Debut Show):
Fronted by songwriter Jamie Doyle, Dusty & The Brakes takes inspiration from Blues, Country, Folk, Soul, and Jam Band greats and melds them into a sound that explores the beauty in the mundane, the story in the pain, the adventure in the monotany. After a few shows under his belt as a solo performer, this is Doyle’s First time taking a band to the stage with his originals.
The Jake Wasson Malpractice:
If you threw folk punk, blues, and alt country in a blender, you’d get a smoothie that tastes like Jake Wasson M.D.’s music sounds. He’s hard enough to classify without the gender bending, trash-glam aesthetic, and yet the parts form a compelling whole. Drawing influence from The Mountain Goats, AJJ, The White Stripes, Robbie Fulks, and Ani DiFranco, Wasson wails his confessional lyrics over gritty arrangements, crafted layer by layer.
Wasson snarls, croons, and yodels in vocal acrobatics up and down his impressive vocal range. Guitar and harmonica central to his sound, but Wasson himself provides additional instrumentation on banjo, bass, mandolin, percussion, and backing vocals. He even tackles production and creates his own artwork. Still, Wasson is a songwriter first. His wordplay is intricate. His references are obscure. His storytelling is precise, funny, vulnerable, and scathing. Where else can you find koalas, witchcraft, and the Russian region of Kamchatka, all in a single track (“The Eucalyptus Song”), or hear how, for an anxious mind living in strange times, the simple act of buying a beverage can spiral into thoughts of the apocalypse (“Fountain Soda”)?
Jake Hunsinger & The Rock Bottom Band:
Based out of Providence, Rhode Island, Hunsinger is an eclectic singer/songwriter and avid student of the Country music songwriting traditions. Supported by his dear friends in The Rock Bottom Band, together they showcase energetic performances with rollicking arrangements, dynamic production, and serene hillbilly harmonies over Hunsinger’s inspired songwriting. Hunsinger’s voice itself is described as “a blend of full-bodied soul and a bit of a twang, (he) is able to pull this off in excellent fashion”. All of this combines to create something between familiar and nostalgic, as well as the new and exciting
